This filter allows Cumulus™ to catalog documents created by Adobe PageMaker 5.0 and 6.0. The file type of these files is either “ALB5” or “ALB6”.
PageMaker documents may optionally contain a preview resource which Cumulus uses to create the thumbnail. To add a preview resource to a document, check the appropriate option in PageMaker's Save dialog. Documents containing no preview are represented by a PageMaker icon as their thumbnail.
To catalog file-specific information, the PageMaker filter requires PageMaker to be installed on your hard disk. If PageMaker is available, the filter launches it in the background and requests the needed information about the publication (but see below).
You can modify the filters behaviour by editing the setup dialog in the Cataloging Preferences in Cumulus 2.0. (You may also click the Setup button in the dialog for type-specific information.)
The three pairs of radio buttons allow you to fine-tune the gathering of type-specific information:
If you do not want any such information included at all-which speeds up cataloging-choose “No” in the “Additional Information” section of the dialog. If you want such information to be cataloged at least sometimes, choose “Ask PageMaker”.
If you choose “No” in the “Start PageMaker” section, type-specific information is only gathered if PageMaker is already running at cataloging time. To always gather that information, regardless of whether PageMaker is running or not, choose “Yes” here.
If you chose to let the filter start PageMaker by choosing “Yes”, the “Quit PageMaker” section becomes available. You can choose between having the filter never quit PageMaker, leaving the application running after cataloging until you quit it manually, or having it quit PageMaker whenever the filter launched it to catalog images. Note that the PageMaker filter in no event quits PageMaker if it didn't launch it itself.
The PageMaker filter settings are saved in the file “Cumulus PM Preferences” in the Preferences folder.
The following type-specific information is available for PageMaker 5 and PageMaker 6 publications:
Start Page #: The page number of the first page in the publication.
Number of Pages: How many pages does the file contain.
Fonts: All fonts used in the document.
Colors: All colors used in the publication.
Links: This list displays all files that have been placed in the publication and are still linked to it. Besides the file name, the file type and the page number are also shown. A file placed several times will appear in the list more than once.
Setup: Click this button to configure the PageMaker filter as described in the previous section of this text.
If, because of the configuration of the PageMaker filter at cataloging time, no type-specific information is available for a particular PageMaker file, the following dialog is displayed instead:
Clicking “OK” returns you to the information window for the PageMaker publication. Clicking “OK” opens the configuration dialog described above.
PageMaker 6 supports drag and drop for pictures (as from the Clipboard) but not for files. With drag&drop you can transfer the thumbnails of a Cumulus database into a PageMaker document but the files cannot be placed by dragging and dropping. PageMaker 5 does not support drag&drop.
